      DSC04704 (1)

      Peace officers

Our uniformed Calgary Transit peace officers are highly trained and skilled professionals, who help ensure you get home safely every day. They patrol our transit systems 24 hours, seven days a week, proactively preventing disorder and providing help in emergency situations.

      Security cameras

Our stations, buses and CTrains are equipped with cameras to enhance your safety. These cameras are monitored by security staff that are in direct contact with our peace officers and can dispatch them quickly, or call other emergency responders.

      TransitWatch program

Every Calgary Transit rider deserves to feel safe when riding with us. Our Transit Watch program allows our customers to report their immediate concerns to us, so that together we can help make public transit safe. If you see something out of the ordinary, report it immediately to the bus or Ctrain operator, uniformed peace officer or law enforcement authorities. For emergencies, always contact 9-1-1.

Other ways to report a concern:

      Text Message

To discreetly report immediate safety or security concerns, text us at 74100 anywhere, anytime. Our staff will assist you and dispatch officers, if needed.
      Standard message rates apply.

      Help Buttons/Phones

Our CTrain stations, platforms and MAX Purple stations are all equipped with help phones where you can report your concern. Press a help button until it clicks and the green light comes on, to tell the operator what the situation is.

      Phone Us

Text message options for reporting safety concerns

      How does it work?

      • Send a text message to 74100 with your immediate safety/security concern. Emergencies should always be reported to 9-1-1.
      • Provide as much detail as possible: Who? What? When? Where? How?
      • The message will immediately be received by our staff. We will acknowledge the receipt of your text and likely have follow-up questions.

When should I text and when should I call 9-1-1?

The text message tool is for immediate safety and security issues, such as disorder, infrastructure issues, broken glass, ice or harassment. For general information like route or schedule inquires, customers should continue to use our app, website, Twitter or call us at 262-1000. All emergencies should still be reported to 9-1-1.

Will it cost me anything on my phone bill?

Standard rates apply. Check with your wireless provider if short codes carry any extra charges.

Can I send photos or video clips?

Yes, we can receive images or video clips through our text number.

Safety tips when riding public transport

      Around our stations

If you’re walking to one of our CTrain stations, look both ways for trains when crossing the tracks and obey all traffic signals. Motorists should be aware of flashing lights and crossing arms when CTrains are passing through.

      Waiting for the train

While waiting for the CTrain, please ensure you stand and remain behind the yellow line until the train has fully stopped. Never put any objects or limbs in the closing doors and don’t try to pry the doors open once they’ve closed. Wait for fellow transit users to exit the train before get on.

      On the train

Once you’re on the train, move to the centre of the car so as not to block other customers from getting on and off. Each CTrain car has yellow lines and signs to indicate where it’s safe to stand when the doors are opening.

      Getting off the train

When you’re exiting the CTrain, please move towards the door before the train comes to a stop. Once the train has stopped, press the button near the exit to open the door. This will make it easier for you to get off the train in a timely manner.

      Personal preparedness tips

      • Familiarize yourself with bus stops and CTrain stations.
      • Know emergency exit locations.
      • Create a plan for maintaining contact with family members, if separated.
      • Create a plan for maintaining contact with close friends and colleagues during an extended emergency period.
      • Identify alternate routes and means of reaching your meeting point in the event your main route is impassible.
      • Make sure your emergency information and contact numbers are with you at all times.
      • In the event of an emergency, remain calm and listen for station, train or bus announcements.

      Follow Calgary Transit employee instructions.
