Fish Creek Transit Service Review (TSR)
The Fish Creek TSR includes bus routes that serve several communities in south Calgary. Our goals for this area are to:
- Extend bus connections to destinations on either side of Fish Creek Provincial Park
- Better align the regular bus route network with high schools and other destinations
- Invest in and serve ongoing community grow
- Adjust routes in the area to align with the primary transit network (PTN), as outlined in RouteAhead
What we've done so far:
Comprehensive review of current transit service
Our first steps for this area were to review:
- How well the routes align with Route Ahead principles,
- The performance and ridership of every route,
- Current Transit coverage in the area,
- Expected community growth
- Areas with duplicate or overlapping bus service
- School catchments and School Express Route use,
- Important destinations and how well they are covered by Transit
- Feedback from operators about each route
- Feedback received from customers about each route (through 311, our call centre, our ‘contact us’ page, social media, etc.)
- Comments and concerns from area councillors
Development of proposed changes
Based on this review, we created proposed adjustments to bus routes in the area, which will provide improved overall service, connections, and flexibility for the varied needs of our customers.
Highlights of proposed changes
- Extend bus connectivity across Fish Creek to destinations on either side of the Provincial Park
- New routes 18 and 25 cross Fish Creek and connect to multiple schools
- Route 30/31 loop system to provide connectivity within the communities of Chaparral, Walden, Wolf Willow, and Legacy
- Modified routes 28 and 29 provide direct service from multiple communities to Lord Beaverbrook High School and Southcentre Mall
- New Route 507 Somerset aligns with PTN line and long-term BRT investment with ability to extend to Providence.
- Route 103 can be modified and expanded when needed
- Better connectivity to Henry Wisewood, Lord Beaverbrook, All Saints, Centennial, E.P Scarlett, and Robert Warren
- New local service along Bonaventure Drive S.E. between 90 Avenue S.E. and Southland Drive S.E.
- Service expansion in Alpine Park, Belmont, Wolf Willow, Legacy, Yorkville, and Pine Creek
Public review
In March, we shared our proposed route changes and asked the community for feedback. We held two open houses in the area and hosted an online survey for customers to let us know your thoughts.
