Significant CTrain service disruption November 24 to December 3

From 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24 to 4:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, Victoria Park/Stampede, Erlton/Stampede and 39 Avenue stations will be closed. The southbound Red Line will terminate at City Hall/Bow Valley College Station and northbound Red Line will terminate at Chinook Station, with no CTrain service in between.

The Switch CTrain closure map

The closure is required to switch service at Victoria Park/Stampede Station from the temporary platform to its new permanent platform as part of the station rebuild project.

In addition to the CTrain disruption, there will be various lane closures on northbound Macleod Trail throughout the nine-days.

  • From Monday, November 27 to Thursday, November 30, during the morning rush (6 a.m. to 9 a.m.), all three lanes will be open, with various lane closures throughout the rest of the day.
  • Overnight, northbound Macleod Trail will be down to one lane open.

Drive

We know that your commute during this nine-day construction period might be challenging. We are identifying ways to make it a bit easier.

We recommend avoiding Macleod Trail to access downtown, as additional traffic and lane closures will impact your commute. Alternate routes may include:

  • Glenmore to Crowchild to Bow Trail, entering downtown from the west;
  • Deerfoot Trail to Memorial, entering downtown using the 4 Avenue flyover;

We encourage you to carpool to get downtown or beyond, if possible. Remember there will be higher volumes of traffic due to lane closures along northbound Macleod Trail and a likely increase in the number of vehicles on the road. This could also have an impact on parking, but there are options available.

Park downtown
  • Calgary Parking has surface lots available for $10):
    • Lot 55
    • Lot 58

What we’re doing to help

We know that the closure will cause significant delays to transit customers and motorists, and we’re working on supporting you in your commute around the city.

  • We will be adjusting the timing of traffic lights along Macleod Trail to help keep traffic flowing.
  • There will be no turning onto Macleod Trail northbound at 13, 14, 15, or 17 Avenues to reduce congestion and keep northbound traffic flowing.
  • We will have tow trucks on standby at key locations in case there are issues/accidents, to help traffic recover more quickly.
  • We will have an enhanced snow and ice control response at shuttle bus stops and on shuttle routes throughout the closure.

We know that despite these efforts, it will still be challenging to make your way around the city during this time. We recommend you plan to adjust your commute during this time, whether you’re taking transit or driving, or consider working alternate hours, if you’re able, to avoid peak travel periods.
