During the summer of 2023, The City will be piloting an e-Bike program at three suburban Transit stations.
Starting June 1 and running until the end of September 2023, 30 E-bikes will be available for use at the Franklin, Shaganappi and Canyon Meadows CTrain stations.
Under the pilot program, two micromobility providers, Bird and Neuron, have agreed to give riders who jump on an e-bike at one of the stations, the first 10 minutes free, once a day.
These E-bikes can be used within the programmed geo fences (areas) in the community around the stations.
This pilot will help us understand if there is demand in suburban areas for shared e-bikes at CTrain stations and, if so, where people use them to travel to.
Previous funding received from Calgary’s micro-mobility companies is being used as a way to reinvest back into program. The estimated cost of the pilot is $50,000 based on an estimated number of free e-Bike trips.
