Bus and volunteers
A little kid helping stuff that bus!

This was the most successful Stuff a Bus event in our 27 year history! In partnership with Calgary Co-op, The Calgary Food Bank, XL 103 and AMP 90.3 radio, we raised a total of $272,060.58 in food and funds for the Calgary Food Bank. To put that in perspective, last year we raised $218,421.65, and that was our previous record.

After the donations piled in on November 16, bus operators drove the cargo to one of our transit garages to unload and weigh the food, then transfer it to Food Bank collection trucks. A total of 69 pallets of food were collected from the buses, with the food weighing in at 86,323 pounds. Food Bank volunteers were on-site at every Co-op to collect cash donations too, which brought in over $47,000.

Calgary Transit donated 20 buses for the event and approximately 200 employees and their family/friends volunteered. Huge thanks to Brian Lorfing, Transit Operator, who organized volunteers and event logistics.

“The event went very smoothly and everyone who volunteered and donated was energetic and fun,” said Brian. “I heard stories of car loads pulling up to drop off donations, and people going into Co-op to load up a cart full of groceries to donate. It was a great success this year!”
