Our transit drivers have a hard job: keeping up with timed schedules, steering through unpredictable traffic, navigating detours, driving in severe weather and keeping customers safe through it all. But they make it look easy.
For all their hard work every day of the year, the least we can do is say thank you. We’re celebrating Thank Your Driver Day on Monday, March 19. Traditionally Thank Your Driver Day is observed in cities around the world on March 18 because on that day in 1662, bus service debuted in Paris with horse-drawn carriages.
Our 2,000-plus CTrain, bus, shuttle and Calgary Transit Access operators help more than half a million Calgarians get around the city every weekday. And they do it with a smile.
Most customers choose to thank their drivers every day, which is fantastic (there aren’t many jobs where you can be thanked for your service hundreds of times a day!). But for those who want to give their driver a special shout-out on Thank Your Driver Day, here’s how you can do it:
- Share your thanks on Twitter or Instagram @CalgaryTransit using the hashtag #thanksCT
- A friendly word, smile or wave is all it takes to show your appreciation
- Give your driver a thank you card – hand written messages are extra special
- Submit a commendation for your favourite Operator online. Click here and select “Employee Conduct” from the list of feedback options. (It’s ok if you don’t know their name – the route number, time and location you catch the bus or train is enough).
