Getting Started With Google Transit
Google offers an alternative way to find schedule times, and trip planning. These steps will help you get more familiar with the tools.
- Click here to go directly to Google Maps Calgary.
- You can double click anywhere on the map to zoom in, or you can use the zoom toolbar located on the left side of the map.
- By holding your left mouse button on the map, you can move/drag it in any direction.
When you zoom close into an area, you will see circles or bus/train icons appear. These icons signify a stop location. Click an icon to view all routes that use that stop.
To view upcoming schedule times:
Click any route number to view upcoming bus times.
To get directions to/from this stop:
Click "Get directions", located on the lower left side of the bubble.
- To get directions on how to get from one place to another without browsing the map, click "Get Directions" (located top left, under the Google Maps logo).
A: Enter your origin.
B: Enter your destination.
Click the "Get Directions" button.
You may see your origin or destination field highlight in yellow. Google needs you to specify which location you are referring to. Simply click the correct item from the list provided.
Shortly, you will see up to three trip options, with estimated times. All details follow under this box, and the trip is outlined in the color purple on the map.
Tip: If you find the trip results are different from what you expected, try clicking the "Show options" link (located below destination field "B"), and adjust the departure / arrival time by 15 minutes.
By varying the departure or arrival time, Google seeks new possible routes / connections to get you to your destination as efficiently as possible.
You may have problems viewing some road names. Mouse over the "More" tab (located at the top right of the map), and uncheck the "Transit" box . This disables the transit route lines and stops from showing on the map, allowing you to read all road names more easily.
Google Transit information may not be as current as Calgary Transit. It may not include roads and stops in newer communities. If Google Transit can not locate an address you have entered, try using the Calgary Transit Trip Planning tool.
