Musicians in Motion

Age
You must be 18 years of age and over to busk. Those between 18 and 16 years of age need parental consent. Buskers under the age of 16 must have a responsible adult accompanying them at all times while performing.

Fees
The permit fee is $25. The permit will expire on December 31, the same year your permit was issued. (Fee is $25, regardless of time of year when permit is purchased.) Permits are not transferable. It is only valid for the busker it has been issued to. Any misuse of the permit will result in your busking privileges being revoked and no portion of the fees shall be refunded.

Criminal Record Check and Past History with Calgary Transit Peace Officers
An official municipal criminal record check and a past history check with Calgary Transit Peace Officers are required. You will be responsible for all fees/procedures necessary to obtain the criminal record check. If any offences are revealed, it shall be at the sole discretion of Calgary Transit to allow or refuse application.

Proof of Payment
When using Calgary Transit to commute, valid proof of payment must be available to surrender to any Calgary Transit employee, upon demand.

Call In/Check Out
Upon arriving at a station, pick up the emergency phone, or push the “Help” button and let Calgary Transit dispatch know that you are performing. You will be asked your name and permit number to verify. At the end of your session, check out with Calgary Transit dispatch through the same process.

Display of Permit
When performing, your permit must be worn and visible at all times. If permit is not immediately available for observation by a Calgary Transit Peace Officer, you will be subject to the same penalties accessed to a person performing without a permit.

Instruments / Props permitted
Voice and instruments may not be aided by amplification of any kind. No knives, fire or any other props are permitted that could present a danger to yourself or pedestrians.
Please remember the CTrain stations are confined spaces. You must perform at noise levels that do not jeopardize the comfort and safety of your audience.

Performer Queue
Each performer may perform in one location for two hours. For example: John begins set up at Anderson Station at 2:15pm. John may entertain until 4:15 and then surrender his location to the next performer. If there is no one wishing to take over the spot, John may continue to perform until a new busker arrives. There may be only one busker or busker collaboration at a station at any given time (see Multiple Performers).

Multiple Performers
If your act consists of 2 or more performers each performer must have a valid Calgary Transit Music in Motion permit. A busker with no permit will be asked stop busking and may be subject to the same penalties accessed to a person performing without a permit.

Permitted Locations
Please note all performances must take place inside the station. No performances are permitted on platforms, walkways, overpasses or stairs leading up to the station. Please be conscious of traffic flow and do not set up anywhere where you will impede traffic flow. Further, volume should be kept at a level to allow customers to converse at normal talking levels. Set up in a location such that you can visibly see the help phone but do not set up directly in front of it.
