THE PERSONAL INTERVIEW:

The City of Calgary uses an interview process known as    "Targeted Selection". The main principle of this process is that your past behavior will typically predict your future behavior.

During the job interview, the interview panel will be asking several pre-planned questions about some work experiences that you have had. All applicants will be asked the same questions to ensure consistency amongst interviews.

The Operator job posting or competition will list several duties and qualifications that you will require to do the job of a transit operator. If you use this information wisely, it will help you better prepare for the actual interview.

The easiest way to answer any of the questions is to tell the interview panel an experience that you have had, preferably at work. Try to share the example like you are telling a story to a friend. In other words, describe what the situation was, what you did about it and how it turned out.

The most important part of your answer is what action you took. This will tell the interview panel how you behaved in the past and how you are likely to behave in the future.

Just remember, there are no trick questions or right/wrong answers. The interview panel will want to know about your work experiences.

At the end of the interview, you will be given an opportunity to ask any questions that you might have about the job or the organization.

One of the interviewers' main goals is to make sure you are relaxed so that they can obtain all the information possible to make a good decision. One of the easiest ways for you to relax is to be prepared! GOOD LUCK!
