The assessment of your application is a
critical step in the hiring process. It is
very important that you fill out a City of
Calgary application form. The form needs to be
completed legibly and accurately. It can be
submitted on-line, in person or mailed in.

section of the application form. The following
is a checklist of additional important
information you will need to provide. Please
use this list to assist you in completing the
application form.

phone number where you can be
reached during the day. If
there is a number where a
message can be left, please
give this as well.

TRAINING:
Training/courses/seminars that
you have taken that are
directly related to customer
service, public relations,
Safety, defensive driving or
interpersonal communications.

HISTORY:
We would like to know
more about those positions you
have held involving driving
and or customer service.
Please include details about
any relevant experience.
ATTACHMENTS:
Applicants
may forward a resume but it
must include all of the same,
relevant information that is
found on The City of Calgary
application form. Resumes that
are of poor quality or
incomplete will not be
considered. All forms must
include a current competition
number, no exceptions.
The completion of your application form and
submittal of your resume is only the first step
of six in the entire process. After the initial
grading of your application, your name may be
moved onto the next step in the hiring process.
The following is a detailed description of those
steps.
CUSTOMER RELATIONS
& PEOPLE SKILLS:
A video based testing format that has
been specifically designed for the
selection of transit operators. Typical
subject matter would include customer
relations, relations with Supervisors and
co-workers, and working in a diverse
cultural workforce. There are examples
given of people interacting in a work
environment and then applicants are asked,
" If you were the operator, what
would you do?" This people sense
video will assist in identifying potential
candidates who have a good sense for
customer relations. There are
approximately fifty multiple choice
questions and the test is timed. (85
minutes) This test is administered in a
controlled environment.
SIMULATED DRIVING
VIDEO TESTING:
A new innovative video animation based
test of driving judgement that simulates
the multi-tasking environment of operating
a transit vehicle. This video will
identify candidates who can:
- concentrate on the road ahead
- keep track of oncoming traffic and
situations
- monitor vehicle mirrors
- listen and respond to radio
transmissions, trainer instructions
and on-board customers.
- anticipate problems with turns,
intersections and traffic.
This particular test has a value placed
on it according to the nature of the
question. This is a timed test (35
minutes) and is conducted in a controlled
environment.
